Lying Fallow: The Value of Idleness

Elaborating our previous approach to the notion of ‘fallowness’, Lying Fallow reflects on the potential of idleness in a paradigm of perpetual activity. While Cerdà and others sought to ‘fill the earth’ in a push that introduced urbanization to the world stage, we ask if a future urban world can be formed around ‘letting the earth sleep’? If so, what might these approaches look like?
