This paper intentionally intersects design thinking, urban theory, and science fiction (SF), deliberately entangling these discourses and setting them in contact and dialogue with one another, thereby creating productive friction among them. The form of the article—which alternates between two sets of textual blocks: one advancing a general narrative through a sequence of citations and commentaries; the other configuring a series of “bibliographic folders” where sources are assembled and pondered—is itself designed as a refractive medium through which the argument unfolds. The resulting idiosyncratic and expansive literature review registers the manifold conceptual resonances emerging from these staged encounters. By weaving a set of possible relations across this epistemic nexus, the paper proposes that both design activity, as praxis, and science fiction, as discourse, constitute two sides of the same mode of thought—at once critical of the existing and projected toward alternative yet plausible future planetarities—with the potential to decenter the hegemonic imaginaries of capitalist urbanization.
