Neil Brenner, Shannon Dawdy
New Urban Spaces and Critical Urban Theory (new book salon)
Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT), University of Chicago / June 28, 2021

The urban condition is today being radically transformed. Urban restructuring is accelerating, new urban spaces are being consolidated, and new forms of urbanization are crystallizing across the planet. In his most recent book, New Urban Spaces: Urban Theory and the Scale Question (Oxford, 2019), Brenner argues that understanding these mutations of urban life requires not only concrete research, but new theories of urbanization. In this new book salon organized by our colleagues at the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT), Brenner discusses the core arguments of this book. The presentation is followed by a dialogue and discussion with Prof. Shannon Dawdy (Department of Anthropology at 3CT, University of Chicago). Due to the COVID pandemic, the panel was held on zoom.
