Proyecto VI

Vertical Urbanisms & Science Fiction is a design studio that interrogates the historical identification between the organizational figure of ‘the corporation’ and the skyscraper-form as the dominant spatial paradigm of contemporary urbanization. Beginning from the observation that imaginaries of the urban future—within both architecture and science fictional narratives—have persistently equated the evolution of cities with the exponential proliferation of corporate megastructures, the course mobilizes science fiction as a critical-speculative apparatus capable of denaturalizing this corporation–skyscraper nexus. Through a methodology that combines textual analysis and iterative design experimentation, students dismantle the architectural and ideological logics embedded in corporate verticality and reassemble them into alternative forms of extra-large urbanism. Moving between the scale of the individual corporate building and that of post-corporate urban ensembles, the studio treats speculative design as a process of conceptual and typological recomposition, translating literary, cinematic, and architectural imaginaries into a catalogue of science-fictional urban models through which the organizational and spatial forms of the corporate city can be critically superseded.
